Award winning primary school

19th June 2019
Heswall Primary School has been named as the National Champion of the Better Energy School Awards through the Young People's Trust for The Environment (YPTE).   We advised you that earlier this year we had won the regional award and we were invited to take 30 children down to the national awards ceremony that was held at London Zoo.  Our children gave a presentation and sang one of our catchy eco-songs infront of the other regional award winners and members of the trust.  Also watching and presenting the awards were celebrities including Callum Woodhouse and Daisy Waterstone from the  'The Durrells', author Andy 'Mr Gum' Stanton, TV presenters Naomi Middleton, Adrian Cale and Dermot O'Leary.

The children and staff had the most amazing day.  We set off at 5:00am and arrived in London at around 10:30am.  The children chatted away to the celebrities before and enjoyed a fantastic couple of hours in London Zoo and saw amazing animals including the gorillas and tigers.  We also visited the reptile house which was known to the children due to a famous Harry Potter scene.

We are grateful for all of the awards as they help us to spread our environmental messages and lets people know that the children at Heswall really care.  We won the Liverpool Echo Environmental Award a couple of months back and some of our children were invited to meet the mayor who thanked them for their efforts.  We will use the awards to continually open new doors for our lovely school and our amazing children. We will keep the environmental issues high on the agenda.  The awards are great but the growing environmental awareness of our children and knowing that they really care is the real award.  They really are advocates of change and they know we are all going to have to work together to keep our precious and fragile world safe.
