Cressida Cowell visits Heswall Primary

27th June 2017
What an amazing day we have had! The author of the really famous 'How To Train Your Dragon' series of books came to Heswall Primary School!  Cressida Cowell met children from Y1-Y6 (YR were out on a school trip) and she read some extracts from both her old and new books.  She also told us all about her life as she was growing up, spending her holidays on a deserted Scottish island.  Cressida told us about her own children too, and how she read to them each day, and she answered lots of the children's questions which was brilliant.

It was an inspiring event for all staff and children and she has left us with motivated readers and writers.  She talked about how sometimes children can't think of ideas in their writing, but she pointed out that those children often play the most imaginative games and we need to let these feed into our writing.  Cressida drew us a very special picture of one of her dragons and has dedicated the picture to Heswall Primary.  Before she left, Cressida signed books for children and she has tweeted a picture of our own dragon.

We were also joined by Y3, Y4 and Y5 children from Pensby Primary who also came to listen and spend the day here at Heswall completing lots of activities based on the 'How To Train Your Dragon' books.  All children from both schools played together at lunchtime and we've all had the most wonderful day.
